Tenable, a global leader in exposure management, protects over 44,000 organizations from modern cyber threats. As their business scaled, so did the data powering it, and the costs that came with managing that data in Snowflake.

With high-growth workloads, a growing customer base, and increasing demands on their engineering team, Tenable needed a way to reduce Snowflake spend without sacrificing performance or pulling developers off their core mission.

They turned to Yuki.

The Challenge

Tenable’s Snowflake usage had grown significantly as the business scaled. While necessary to support customers, this expansion created three pressing issues:

  • Rising Costs: Snowflake compute usage was increasing rapidly across large, complex workloads.
  • Underutilized Warehouses: Large compute clusters were often idle or inefficiently used, leading to wasted credits.
  • Manual Optimization Burden: Engineers were spending valuable time managing warehouse sizes and analyzing query behavior, time that could have gone to improving platform performance and security.

The Solution

Tenable integrated Yuki by making a single change to their connection string. There were no code changes, no configuration hurdles, and no disruptions.

Once live, Yuki began managing their Snowflake warehouses automatically, analyzing query patterns in real time and routing each request to the most cost-efficient compute resource. The platform ensured high performance and full utilization without engineering involvement.

Key results from the optimization included:

  • 43% of large-warehouse queries rerouted to X-Small
  • 40% of medium queries rerouted to X-Small
  • 50% of small queries rerouted to X-Small

Yuki’s dynamic load balancer ensured that warehouses were spun up only when needed, and shut down automatically when idle.

The Results

In just two weeks, Tenable saw:

  • 33% reduction in Snowflake spend
  • 10 hours of engineering time saved per week
  • 26% increase in warehouse utilization

“With Yuki, we cut Snowflake costs by over 30%, eliminated hours of manual optimization, and maximized performance across our entire data platform. The integration was effortless and the impact was immediate.”
Guy Bratman, Senior Director, Platform Engineering at Tenable

Yuki for Cyber Companies

For security-focused organizations like Tenable, engineering time is best spent defending against threats rather than tuning data infrastructure. Yuki’s automation allowed their team to step away from manual optimization tasks while reducing costs at scale.

The integration took under an hour. The impact showed up in days.

“With Yuki, we cut our Snowflake costs by 33%, saved 10 hours of manual optimization. The integration was effortless, and the impact was immediate. Yuki allows us to focus on security while it handles our data efficiency.”

– Guy Bratman, Senior Director of Engineering at Tenable
